EXPLORING THE NEXUS OF LANGUAGE ANXIETY AND ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT: A SYSTEMATIC LITERATURE REVIEW
Roselyn Mae S. Fernandez
Discipline: literature in English
Abstract:
Language anxiety has been known to be a strong predictor of second
language (L2) achievement for decades. There has been a relative lack of empirical
attention to establishing which one anxiety or achievement influences the
other. Second language (L2) anxiety has been the object of constant empirical
and theoretical attention for several decades. As a matter of both theoretical and
practical interest, much of the research in this domain has examined the
relationship between anxiety and L2 achievement. The present study was a
systematic literature review of research. An evaluation of related literature on
language anxiety showed that foreign language anxiety is a challenging issue in
academic performance. However, researchers should treat this issue
systematically and offer a full understanding on the language learning anxiety
and academic performance of the students. A thorough understanding of the
causes of foreign language anxiety would help to find ways to reduce this
problem. Based on this comprehensive review, more studies in this field are still
needed to confirm previous studies on language anxiety and help the students
reduce this and have confidence in themselves. This study suggests a research
timeline was conducted up to this time. It is also noticed that foreign language
anxiety has negative effects on the learning of students.
